The project

Making wine legible.

Cerchiorosso began in eastern Friuli from a simple idea: alone, a winery has a voice; in a network, they have the voice of a territory. Out of that came a site to read, an app to keep in your pocket, and a platform wineries use to tell their story. Three tools, one idea.

The why

A label isn't enough

What makes one wine different from another isn't written down anywhere. It exists, but it's scattered: some of it with the maker, some in the soil, some in the history of the place. It's never been put in one place, in a language you can understand.

That's what Cerchiorosso is for: gathering what makes a wine that wine, and making it legible to those who don't already know. Not one more catalogue — the world is full of those — but a way of looking.

How to read it

Three lenses, in this order

  1. 01

    The place

The ponca that flakes between your fingers, the wind off the Adriatic, the border crossed so many times. Wine begins long before the vine.

  2. 02

    The person

Who made it. What they chose to do, and above all what they chose not to do. That's where two vineyards that touch give wines that don't resemble each other.

  3. 03

    The wine

What ends up in the glass. The destination, not the departure — and so the last thing to look at, not the first.

The network

One voice for a territory

Cerchiorosso holds realities small, medium and large. Alone, each has a voice; in a network, they have the voice of a territory. The founding value is cooperation — building the network — because what grows is the whole territory, not the single bottle.

It speaks to the gourmet traveller and to those who've just (re)discovered the interest: to know a place through its excellences, and get in touch with those who make them.

We give a single voice to the territory, uniting professionals and excellences. We share with our guests landscapes, life stories and food-and-wine specialities — ambassadors of an Italy that knows how to be generous, of beauty and goodness.

The tools

Three tools, one idea

The same story, where you need it.

Where we are

It starts in eastern Friuli

Collio and Colli Orientali are the right place to start: a borderland, held by the Julian Alps and lapped by the Adriatic, where the cooking is Central-European after centuries of Friulian, Slovenian and Austrian influence. Here the border has moved many times, and each time it left something in the glass.

Other territories will follow.

The project continues

One territory at a time

We're working to be present in other territories of the country. If the project interests you — or you'd like to propose a territory — write to us.
