THE TERRITORY

At the extreme eastern edge of the region, in the province of Gorizia and close to the border with Slovenia, Collio constitutes a renowned area for the production of fine wines, which have been awarded of Controlled Designation of Origin (D.O.C.) status since as far back as 1968, ranking among the first in Italy to receive such recognition. From the hills of San Floriano and Oslavia above Gorizia to those of Ruttars, Lonzano and Vencò on the banks of the Judrio River, once the border between Italy and Austria, there is an enchanting landscape of rolling hills interspersed with picturesque villages and vineyards, covering an area of about 1,600 hectares.

WINES

This picturesque hilly region, perfect for rejuvenating vacations surrounded by greenery thanks to excellent agritourism facilities, stretches almost uninterruptedly along an ideal axis from east to west, with vast areas exposed to south, ideal for growing high-quality grapes. This propitious condition has favored the cultivation of vines since ancient times, which was introduced as early as pre-Roman times. Collio, famous for its great white wines such as Pinot, Tocai friulano, Sauvignon and the renowned Collio Bianco, is equally renowned for its excellent reds, including Collio Rosso, Cabernet and Merlot.

Born in the 1980s, when Marisa Tomadin took over the grocery shop of the Cormons Agricultural Cooperative, Alimentari Tomadin has been promoting the typical products of Collio and regional and national gastronomic excellence with passion and enthusiasm for more than thirty years.
